Abstract
- The article discusses the organics recycling program in Canada, which is designed to divert 70 percent of waste from disposal by 2016, from 45 percent. The said program will start on April 2, 2007 and it will involve the residents in the Region of Peel - Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga, Ontario in setting out kitchen waste and soiled paper at the curbside for weekly collection. It has been noted that between February and March, 2007, almost 285,000 Peel households received 12-gallon green bins which were manufactured by Norseman Plastics Ltd., mainly for organic materials. Accordingly, this project is the largest simultaneous rollout of an organics recycling program in Canada to date.
