Abstract
- Reports a study which examines the origin of the Earth's magnetic field. Role of the polar vortices beneath the core-mantle boundary in each hemisphere; How numerical dynamos have been used to detect secular variations; Use of the observed structure of the Earth's magnetic field and its variation since 1870 to show the existence of vortices.
