Abstract

The article offers an update on the political and military relations within nations in South and Southeast Asia and discusses the efforts of the Thailand government to promote peace within the country as Thailand Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont plans to hold peace talks with the rebel groups in southern Thailand. According to the author, the conciliatory gestures might have had a more decisive impact if offered soon after the Tak Bai incident.
