Abstract

The article presents a guide in the selection of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), compounds that inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes for preventing ocular inflammation. Ophthalmic NSAID such as bromfenac, diclofenac and ketorolac have been examined for their inhibitory activity against COX-2. It is suggested that bromfenac has the highest relative potency. Although bromfenac is structurally similar to amfenac, the bromination of bromfenac renders it more active than amfenac.
