Abstract

The article focuses on the decision of the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) to move from the Woolworth mansion to the 7 World Trade Center in New York City. For the NYAS, founded two blocks away, the move represented a return to neighborhood roots. At 7 World Trade, the academy would be nested in its past as it moved toward the future. Hugh Hardy, commissioned for the 40,000-square-foot job, was returning to roots of his own.
