Abstract

The article discusses the unreadiness of the U. S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, which traditionally is on round-the-clock alert for deployment. Pentagon officials are concerned that none of the 20 brigades in Europe, Asia, and the U. S. has enough equipment and manpower for quick deployment into combat. Colonel Charles Hardy of the Forces Command said the Army lacked a fully trained brigade to send overseas to Iraq or elsewhere if needed.
