The article reports on the Lafarge Universal Cement Inference Engine (LUCIE) expert system of Lafarge Group used in its cement mills. The world's largest cement producer was able to increase their production by four to five percent after implementing their rule engine application which makes small but frequent changes during operations. LUCIE operates mills and kilns for majority of the time of operations.
