Abstract
- The article reports information from U.S. under secretary of education Sara Martinez Tucker's February address to college presidents. She defended U.S. President George W. Bush's plan to end the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant program in favor of increasing maximum Pell Grant awards. Changes to college demographics made the existing 20-year-old formula for dividing Supplemental Educational Opportunity funds expensive and inefficient, according to Tucker. Other items discussed were equal access, preparedness for higher education, and ranking of universities and colleges.
