The Destruction of Foster Care Files in Quebec: The Co-opting of a Profession.

The article reports that widespread planned destruction of client files is taking place in social service centers in the province of Quebec. The destruction of foster care files represents an abandonment of professional principles of social workers due to pressures arising from the increasingly juridical nature of child welfare work. Among the files being destroyed are those concerning family services, adult and elderly services, superior court services, social work services in hospital settings and foster care. Foster care services are provided within the context of child protection services.
