Abstract

This article discusses how PTA groups are adopting better business practices to raise more money and change programs from running with chronic deficits to profitable ventures. In Livingston, New Jersey, the PTA reorganized a Friday pizza lunch program so that it earned $100 per week instead of losing money each week. Many of the PTA members have college degrees and had left business careers to become stay-at-home parents. PTA groups are evolving into sophisticated multitiered organizations.
