Abstract

This article explores the history and civil rights of the African American farmer in America's southern states. As their numbers declined and their plight increased, their situation was often overshadowed by other racial issues such as school segregation and the right to vote. Of particular importance is the racism that was prevalent at federal and state level agricultural offices, particularly the United States Department of Agriculture.
