Abstract

The article discusses challenges faced by music libraries in establishing their collections. Music librarians must focus on questions such as the type of music that is studied at their institution and the main research interests of faculty and students. Budget is an additional factor, as are pricing trends and foreign exchange rates. Many music libraries use book approval plans, which serve as standing orders with a vendor, to assist in their acquisition of suitable library materials.
