This article reflects on the unlikely improvements in space launch architecture as a result of an ongoing debate concerning feasibility of various flyback boosters. As always, having the right concept at the start is critical to success of space access activity, such as the rapid-response system being pursued by the U.S. Air Force. It is apparent from the arguments for the different types of flyback boosters that their use would not only be very risky and costly, but would require long development time.
