Metalinguistic skills. A study with children receiving education in French.

The current paper is designed to investigate the level of metalinguistic skills development in seven year old Spanish children receiving most education in French. We analyse the errors made by 24 informants when assigning the gender to 24 French nouns placing an indefinite article in front of them, and the judgements they express subsequently. The results show that these students start to be aware of the grammatical structures they are using, but their linguistic intuitions are still prevailing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
