Abstract

The article focuses on the discovery of a toxin responsible for killing fish along the mid-Atlantic coast of the U.S. in the early 1990's. The toxin is a product of a single celled alga. Scientists who worked with the alga in laboratories reported headaches and rashes. The author also describes why the toxin was so difficult to find.
