Abstract

An interview with David Barnett, president of the American Public Garden Association and vice president of operations at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is presented. His favorite spot in Mount Auburn Cemetery is a wooded area known as Consecration Dell. He feels a public garden or arboretum is a great place for home gardeners to learn about the plants that will perform well in their own gardens. He offers several ways to encourage environmentally sound garden practices that would also help homeowners, such as mowing in leaves instead of raking.
