Abstract
- The article focuses on issues related to the biosocial behavior of the individuals buried in the Aldaieta cemetery in Basque Country, France. The cemetery serves as an excellent site to analyze the relationships between biology and culture. On one hand, the cemetery presents cultural material whose origins lie in the Northern Pyrenean Frankish kingdom, on the other hand it reveals greater genetic affinity to the present-day populations of the northern Iberian Peninsula. These characteristics question of the degree of influence exercised by the large European kingdoms that emerged with the fall of the Roman Empire over the populations of their expansion.
