Tissue oversight in hospitals: the role of the transfusion services.

The article discusses several issues related to hospital transfusion services and the structure function of tissue banks in the U.S. These events include the infectious disease transmissions by tissue and increased regulatory efforts of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. They determined that the only way to provide excellent tissue services is to centralize tissue banks and services under the auspices of the hospital transfusion service.
