Abstract

The article reports that the threat of an ammonia leakage is looming large over the crew members of the space shuttle Discovery. Ammonia, the highly toxic chemical, is used in the space station's cooling system. The threat of leakage of the chemical may be on the mind of Captain Robert L. Curbeam Jr. who will be on his third spacewalk on December 16, 2006. The leakage of the toxic was at the center of a frightening 2001 incident in which the chemical had coated Curbeam's spacesuit.
