This article focuses on the tourist attractions in Shanxi, China's major coal producing province. There are national cultural protection sites that can be found in Shanxi, including the Yungang Grottoes and the ancient town of Pingyao. The province planned three tourism zone along Datong-Yuncheng Expressway, the ancient Buddhist architecture in the north, folk culture and ancient merchant's dwellings in central Shanxi and overseas Chinese roots in the south.
