Abstract
- A novel approach by the ATLAS collaboration for hadronic calibration of their non-compensating calorimeters is presented, where the detector dependent calibration of hadronic signals is as much as possible decoupled from physics dependent corrections in jet reconstruction. A special feature of this approach is that first the basic hadronic calibration is applied using only the less biased calorimeter signal itself, rather than a specific jet context. This is expected to allow better control systematic uncertainties, with indications of a possible better energy resolution and a smaller jet energy scale error. All results reported here are based on detector signal simulations and should be considered preliminary. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
