Abstract

The article focuses on the efforts of research groups to map the human genome and discusses the outcome of what this mapping could do for humankind. 24 different chromosomes which contain 3.1 billion base pairs were identified. Francis Collins, head of the Human Genome Project and entrepreneur Craig Venter were key persons heading the research. The teams will continue sequencing and filling in gaps that have been left out.
