Abstract

The article focuses on the implications of the patenting of basic research in biotechnology and computing according to David Bollier, co-founder of advocacy group Public Knowledge. Bollier has supported proposals for publicly funded research to be publicly disseminated. It cites the impact of the intellectual property restrictions on researchers. Concerns have been expressed on the decision of the Canadian government to amend its copyright law.
