Expert synthesis of the literature to support critical care decision making.

The article presents a case study in which a medical librarian in a hospital's intensive care unit is tasked with finding the "evidence basis for use of intravenous colistin for multi-drug-resistant Acinetobacter infections in the adult, non-neutropenic, critical care population." A strategy for exploring the medical literature and bibliographic citations is presented, as well as suggestions for summarizing important findings for the medical care team and evaluating the overall state of literature on a given topic.
