Rocks of Ages.

In this article, the author recounts how she became fascinated with mica rocks in her neighborhood. She recollects her childhood memories of the rocky wasteland in her neighborhood in Washington Heights, in New York City. Children living in nearby apartments regarded the surrounding wastelands as their own, for afternoon play. While playing there, she came face to face with a wasteland full of hard gray, shining rocks underlying the city.
