Certain Areas of the Brain Size Up Your Competition.

The article presents information on a research conducted by Caroline Zink, a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health in the U.S. which showed that some areas of the anterior cingulate of the brain regions showed increased activity when people were reviewing their position in a social hierarchy. The brain activity of the 24 healthy volunteers were monitored by a sophisticated scanner while they played a game of skill against invented players who they thought to be real.
