The article presents information on the paintings depicting the scenes of the American Civil War drawn by the soldiers fighting in the war. Soldier artists contributed greatly to the post-war chronicles by their illustrations prepared at their free time. Soldiers without formal artistic training, vividly portrayed their experiences and their surroundings in envelopes, notebooks or writing paper.
