Abstract

The article reports on the change in the New York State Workers' Compensation law designed to allow those persons who were exposed to contaminated air as a result of performing rescue, recovery or cleanup work in certain lower Manhattan areas between September 11, 2001 and September 12, 2002, but who are not yet sick to register for workers' compensation benefits. Those who failed to register by August 14, 2007, will not be able to file or refile a claim, according to the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health. A factsheet on the changes and who is affected are available at www.nycosh.org.
