Abstract

The article focuses on a study which states that the reinforcing properties of alcohol and sucrose in a breed of alcohol-preferring rats was decreased by pretreatment with baclofen dose-dependently. The study was conducted in Italy by researcher Paola Maccioni. Pretreatment with baclofen resulted in a marked reduction of sucrose-reinforced responding. With the highest dose of baclofen, alcohol-reinforced responding was reduced by about 80% in rats.
