Abstract
- The complex salt [Cu3(TFSSB)2(bpy)4][Cu(TFSSB)2] · 2H2O (TFSSB = the Schiff base formed by 5-formylsalicylaldehyde and taurine, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl) was synthesized by reaction of Cu(CH3COO)2 · 2H2O, TFSSB and 2,2′-bipy in aqueous methanol (1 : 1, v/v). The complex is triclinic, space group P, with a = 11.2433(5), b = 13.6717(2), c = 14.4022(11) Å, α = 83.588(10), β = 87.919(12), γ = 69.059(9)°, V = 2054.66(18) Å3, Z = 1. The asymmetric unit is comprised of a trinuclear coordinaton cation together with a mononuclear coordination anion and two water molecules, all of which are linked by hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions into a three-dimensional framework. The sulfonate group of the TFSSB ligand coordinates to copper(II) in the cation but not in the anion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
