Abstract

The article discusses the therapeutic efficacy of valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide tablets in the treatment of patients with hypertension. In well designed trials of patients with hypertension, the superior antihypertensive efficacy of once-daily valsartan 80-320mg plus hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 or 25mg over the individual components has been demonstrated. Valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide is well tolerated and its side effects are generally mild and transient. The antihypertensive efficacy of valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide is generally similar to that of other angiotensin receptor blocker/hydrochlorothiazide combinations.
