Abstract

This article presents an encyclopedia entry for fluoride. It is a mineral ion that stimulates bone formation by protein kinase activation-mediated effects on osteoblasts. Fluorides have been used in the treatment of osteoporosis, but their anti-fracture effect is not undisputed.
