Abstract

The authors report that Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk was awarded the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. Pamuk is Turkey's best-known and best-selling novelist as well as an advocate of freedom of speech who has attracted criticism by Islamists and Turkish nationalists.
