Abstract: The article asserts that the top legislative priority for members of the conservative House Republican City Committee is a measure requiring photo identification for U.S. voters. House Republican lawmakers introduced a bill requiring individuals to show photo identifications to vote in federal elections starting in November 2008. Democrats argue that the legislation would disenfranchise the poor, the elderly and minorities. Civil rights groups oppose photo identification requirements.
