Abstract

The article presents information on the plans for the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, and on how Francis P. Valentine, a civil engineer with the city's Department of Transportation, rescued it from destruction. In 1969, the bridge began to show signs of wear after nearly ninety years. Valentine went to the department's carpentry shop at 352 Kent Avenue and found around ten thousand original blueprints and drawings, all under layers of dust and filth.
