Abstract

The article reports on what are known as justice courts in the state of New York. According to the article, many decisions made in these courts take place under dubious legal proceedings. Only one quarter of the judges actually have law degrees, and many lack a complete high school education. After a year of research, "The New York Times" determined that for many years leading up to and including 2006, it has been a common practice in the system to deny individuals their basic legal rights.
