El Salvador is part of the U.S. coalition in Iraq. Colombia's relations with the U.S. has also grown. In 2005, the U.S. did export business of $72 billion with the Latin American region. On the political front, President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela has been critical to the U.S. influence in the region.
