Abstract
- The article reports that ACM's United States Public Policy Committee has recommended that United States Congress enact a comprehensive framework to protect privacy for users of the Internet. The recommendations focus on seven basic areas: minimization, consent, openness, access, accuracy, security, and accountability, and are especially necessary with security breaches revealing millions of personal records, coupled with invasive surveillance programs by law enforcement agencies and calls for service providers to retain customer data.
