An Open-Label Trial of Granulocyte Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor Therapy for Moderate Symptomatic Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis.

The article presents information on an open-label study of daily granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) therapy in a group of patients with idiopathic pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP). PAP is characterized by the deposition of extracellular granular lipoproteinaceous material within the lung alveoli. The findings suggest that administration of GM-CSF improved oxygenation in 12 of 25 adult patients with idiopathic PAP with moderately symptomatic disease.
