Abstract

The article presents information on the inbred strains of rodents. A definition of the terms inbred strain, substrain, coisogenic strain, congenic strain and F1-hybrid is provided. Examples of commonly used inbred strains in the field of immunotoxicology include the Brown Norway rat, BGC3F1 mice and C57BL/G mice. The contribution of inbred strains to biomedical research is discussed.
