Abstract
- The article presents the author's views on John Dryden's heroic play "Aureng-Zebe: A Tragedy," which has been published as a literary work. In the play, the protagonist enacts a code of masculinity that resolutely opposes traditionally warlike, antagonistic, aristocratic attitudes toward both familial and male homosocial relations. According to the author, Dryden's representation of the familial war symbolizes sociocultural conception of succession, inheritance, and competition in England.
