Funding for practice-oriented clinical research.

The article considers the proposed Single Fund to be set up by the United Kingdom Medical Research Council and the National Health Service Research & Development program to administer government-funded medical research. The article calls for the fund to not neglect the practice-oriented clinical research in favor of the more glamorous laboratory-based research. Laboratory developments that are lauded as break-throughs often have little practical application, while clinical research has the benefit or originating in a practical setting.
