Abstract

The article reports on the domestic violence experienced by women in Ghana. A study found that one in three Ghanaian women have suffered from physical violence at the hands of a past or present partner. During the fact-finding investigation interviewees repeatedly confirmed the dramatic scope of the problem of domestic violence in the country. The government created the specialized Women and Juvenile Unit within its police force as it begun to recognize the widespread nature of domestic violence in Ghana. To satisfy its obligations under international law and the Ghanaian Constitution, the government should take the measures offered in this report to protect domestic violence victim rights
