Abstract

The article explains the causes behind the winter-like weather patterns in the U.S. in mid-May 2006. The dreary weather and 50°F temperatures, could have driven north into Quebec and emerged into bright, summer-like conditions. This pattern was caused by a very large low pressure area that was more typical of something seen in March. It had already stalled in the Great Lakes area for two days and was not expected to occur for almost a week.
