Abstract
- The article discusses the Iraqi town of Amara where traditional tribal politics have helped to maintain peace in contrast to other areas of Iraq. Tribes united against Islamists who attempted to alter the social structure of Amara. Comparisons between urban and rural life, and tribal influences are discussed.
