Demultiplexers harness photonic-crystal dispersion properties.

The article reports on the production of the most compact photonic-crystal (PC) demultiplexer by using the three dispersive properties of photonic crystals; namely, the super-prism effect, negative diffraction and negative refraction. Using the super-prism effect in photonic crystal (PC), the basic demultiplexing function can be obtained. Super-prism effect is based on the difference between the dispersive properties of the PC and the incident region for wavelength demultiplexing.
