Abstract

The article reports on the decision of U.S. District Judge Robert W. Pratt to deny state aid to the prison program of the InnerChange Freedom because it violates the Constitution. Pratt said that the charity program was unconstitutional because of its explicit reliance on Christian teachings and because it was paid for by the Iowa Department of Corrections. The judge ordered the Iowa corrections department to end the program within two months and for InnerChange Freedom Initiative to give back the $1.5-million in government funds it received for the prison effort.
