Abstract

The article presents the text of an act to suppress the slave trade in the District of Columbia, which was passed by the United States Congress and dated September 20, 1850. The legislation takes effect on January 1, 1851, and makes it illegal to bring slaves into the District. Violation of the provisions of this act will result in the slave's liberation. The cities of Georgetown and Washington are given the authority to enforce this law. The jurisdictional power of the Levy Court of Washington county is mentioned.
