The social imaginary, in terms of a universe of meaning, is inseparable from the issue of power. Once established, it requires legitimating systems, norms and sanctions as well as mythological supports, emblems and rituals in order to maintain it. Myths that operate through naturalization, timelessness, and the recurrence of their argumentative plots obtain their symbolical effectiveness by appearing in different places in the social texture. By creating totalizing narratives and shifts in meaning, which help to produce invisibilities by eliminating the opposite sense, myths put into play their symbolical violence.
