Abstract

The article provides a summary of a doctoral research by Catherine Simpson on the role of remotely sensed image texture in predictive vegetation modelling. Sympathetic management of remnant vegetation on private lands is an important factor in the effective conservation of native vegetation. Remotely sensed image texture provides an alternative data source for predictive vegetation modelling, and is suited for rapid, repeated measurements over large areas and lands with restricted access. The important consequences of the role of image texture indices in representing unexplained spatial patterning were also addressed.
